About the Club The Stowmarket Railway Club was founded in 1977 with the aim of stimulating interest in both Railways and Model Railways, and meets every Tuesday evening throughout the year at our clubrooms near Stowmarket.
In general, one meeting per month takes the form of a slide show or talk about real railways
and the remaining weekly meetings provide the time to work on modelling projects or just
socialise with fellow members.
The club has an extensive library of books on railways and railway modelling which are available for members to borrow, and we are also compiling an archive of information on the changing railway scene over the years, which concentrates on the section of line between Needham Market and Haughley Junction. The library area
The club also organises a Model Railway Exhibition at the end of April each year, and two Toy & Train fairs (or Swapmeets) in March and October. Details of these events can be found on the Exhibition and Toy and Train Fair pages of this site. A view one of our recent model railway exhibitions
On the modelling front we have an O Gauge exhibition layout which we take out to shows several times a year and a multi-gauge test-track which is permanently setup in the clubrooms. We also have a new 'OO' gauge layout under development. Please see the Layouts page for more detail on our modelling activities.
